Enhancing inclusive growth in kenya

Now is the time.

We are living through unprecedented times. The current Covid-19 crisis has affected everyone’s way of life, but more deeply the women who are a vulnerable group. Many of them have lost their jobs or their businesses have been disrupted. Additionally, women bear the brunt of care burden as they have to take care of children who are now at home due to school closures, thereby reducing time spent generating income or undertaking any economic activity. This has made it difficult for them to access basic needs like food and proper health care. Covid-19 has magnified the gender-based violence that women continue to endure even in normal times. The government directive for people to stay at home has helped minimize the spread of Corona virus but without recognizing the existing risk of vulnerable groups who are exposed to abuse and violence in their homes. This has been accelerated by the reduced or loss of income opportunities.

We, at One World One Future TRUST, appreciate the government’s efforts to minimize the spread of Covid-19 through their awareness programs and several measures to curb the virus. The government together with the Ministry of Health and other organizations are doing a good job in ensuring the citizens are safe, and the infected persons are taken care of. We recognize that everyone has a part to play. So how is One World One Future TRUST dealing with the crisis? We are looking at the effects of Covid-19 during and after the crisis, and how we can help minimize them. We have two projects that we believe will go a long way in dealing with the effects of Covid-19 in the country.

One is a micro-credit program that is aimed at economically empowering women, particularly single mothers in Nairobi. This will be a one million Kenya shillings project, funded by a private company by the name The Eco Harvester Ltd.

The other is an upcoming project is aimed at combating gender-based violence in Kenya. We aim to raise awareness of gender-based violence, to promote healthy behaviors and reduce the stigmatization and discrimination against victims of gender-based violence in the country. This is in partnership with the Association of Sisterhood in Kenya (AOSK). More information on the projects is available on the projects tab on our website here.

We are guided by the belief in development co-operation, not to create a perfect world but to help create a better one. To build a better world, a better future for all!
